How accurate is the test?
Only techniques that are 90-100% accurate are used since 2012 as required by the American Polygrpah Association (APA) standards.

Can it be used in court?
In South Africa there is no law saying it can or can’t be used in a court of law. It does however stipulate that the polygraph evidence cannot be used as alone standing evidence. As supportive evidence it could strengthen what has been presented already. Polygraph test results have been used at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) successfully on many occasions.

Can you beat the test?
No the test cannot be beaten. Polygraphists are trained to see countermeasure and attempts to alter results.

Can you be forced to do the polygraph test?
All residents of South Africa have constitutional rights as contained in the Constitution of South Africa Act No: 108 of 1996. No person can be forced to do a polygraph test. All tests are voluntary.
