How accurate is the Polygraph test?
Studies have shown that the polygraph accuracy ranges between the 90-98% accurate. This accuracy is based on studies conducted by the American Polygrpah Association (APA).

Can it be used in court?
In South Africa there is no law saying a polygraph test can or can’t be used in a court of law. It does however stipulate that the polygraph evidence cannot be used as alone standing evidence. As supportive evidence it could strengthen what has been presented already. Polygraph test results have been used at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) successfully on many occasions.

Can you beat the test?
No the polygraph test cannot be beaten. Polygraphists are trained to see countermeasure and attempts to alter results.

Can you be forced to do the polygraph test?
All residents of South Africa have constitutional rights as contained in the Constitution of South Africa Act No: 108 of 1996. No person can be forced to do a polygraph test. All tests are voluntary.
